Global streaming giant Netflix has unveiled its latest slate of original dramas and unscripted series

Global streaming giant Netflix has unveiled its latest slate of original dramas and unscripted series in Spain, including a local remake of a Turkish drama blocked in its homeland.

Si lo habido (If Only) is a series created by Turkish screenwriter Ece Yörenç. The Boomerang TV production tells the story of a 30-year-old woman disappointed in her 10-year marriage and family life, who is able to go back in time and make different life choices.

Netflix originally commissioned the series in Turkey but pulled it amidst government pressure to remove a gay character from the script. It has now commissioned a Spanish version instead, adapted by Irma Correa and starring Megan Montaner.

Also among the new Spanish original projects announced by Diego Ávalos, Netflix’s VP of original content for Spain and Portugal, is Intimidad, created by Verónica Fernández and Laura Sarmiento, directed by Jorge Torregrossa, Ben Gutteridge, Marta Font and Koldo Almandoz.

Basque prodco Txintxua Films (The Girlfriend, Oreina) will begin filming shortly in Bilbao with the plot centring on a sex video featuring a politician with a promising future that is leaked to the press. Itziar Ituño, Patricia López Arnaiz, Verónica Echegui, Ana Wagener and Emma Suárez make up the cast.

Baruca, meanwhile, is a six-episode action series created by Víctor Sierra and Xosé Morais, directed by Óscar Pedraza and starring Alberto Ammann and Luis Callejo.

Lazona Producciones is working on the series which is set in the Monte Baruca Psychiatric Prison on the night before Christmas when an armed gang attempts to storm the complex and capture a dangerous serial killer.

A number of premiere dates for existing Netflix Iberian originals were also announced at yesterday’s upfronts.

Oriol Paulo’s miniseries El Inocente will premiere on April 30, while the second and final season of El Vecino will arrive on May 21. In the summer, the second season of Valeria, produced by Plano a Plano, the fourth of Elite (both June 18) and the second of Sky Rojo (July 23) will arrive.

For the fall, the platform is readying Jaguar, by Bambú Producciones, and the short-format series El tiempo que te da, with Nadia de Santiago producing and leading the cast. The fifth season of La Casa de Papel is also awaiting its premiere.

In unscripted, the streamer unveiled two new original commissions from the team led by director of non-fiction Álvaro Díaz, an executive who spent 20 years at Zeppelin working on local adaptations of Big Brother and The Bridge.

Last February, he announced Insiders, a mysterious reality show produced by iZen in which the participants will be watched by up to 60 cameras.

Amor Con Baianza is a reality show presented by Mónica Naranjo and produced by Fremantle. In it, six couples seek to prove they have an honest relationship while living together in an exotic location. Their honesty will be tested by modern technology designed to capture lies through eye movement and body language. In the end, the couples who tell the most lies will be eliminated and only one couple will win the final prize.

Georgina Rodríguez, a celebrity with 24 million followers on Instagram, is the star of Georgina, the final Spanish Netflix original production announced yesterday.

The model, mother, influencer, businesswoman, dancer and partner of Cristiano Ronaldo will offer a portrait of “the woman behind the photos, the stories and the big headlines.”

Rodríguez, Argentinian by birth and raised in Spain, will reveal all aspects of her life, from the most public parts to the most personal. Komodo Studio will handle production.
